You are not your job, your titles, your possessions, your degrees, your lovers, your relationships, your place of residence, your social security number, your ID, your bills, your worries, your bank account, your age or your body. You are the timeless being that created & perceives itself through those things, and you have the power to play or not play that game. I never really considered changing my screen resolution. I'm at 800x600, but I wonder what the advantages/disadvantages there are to changing that.

I'm with Galador on this!

I too am at 800x600!

If I use 640x480 then everything is too large, and less objects are visible... and if I use 1024x768 then some of webpages don't load correctly and everything is too small... Making my desktop look deserted!

I'm just happy with 800x600! [Big Grin]

I was at 800 x 600 for a very long time and that is why most of this site is set up to work at 800 x 600 but now I am at 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 seems far too small.

The advantage of a higher sreen resolution is having more information on your screen. But, you also want to be comfortable reading text. You don't want your resolution too high if your monitor is small or not that good.

Most monitors (even 15") made '95 and on can handle 1024x768 without a problem. I've been running mine like that for over 3 and a 1/2 years and it is still working great.

Blackout, I'm surprised that you were running 800x600 for a long time considering all of the editing that you do on videos.

Some people just need to buy new monitors... 1024x768 is the lowest rez in this house [Smile] Of course the smallest used monitor is 17" too (not counting Doni's 12.1" laptop screen or my 15" laptop screen)

I've always considered it a mere question of positioning. When I sat a good distance away from my monitor, I needed 800x600 to be able to read properly. Now that I'm much closer, 1024x768 is more comfortable.

As Zach said, though, old monitors can quite comfortably work with 1024. They were always designed to.

I havent used 800x600 in years and years... to be honest, I didnt think anyone besides Blackout actually DID use that res!

Im at a nice 768x1024 and have been for years...

I would LIKE to go higher, but my monitor would be 'out the range'

I set the site up and ran at 800 x 600 because that's what most people's res is believe it or not. If you travel around to most sites you will see that they usually don't take up your whole screen, because they are set to work at 800 x 600. When editing, I go into a higher resolution and now I have dual monitors so 1024 x 768 on two 19 inch displays is very nice and plenty of room for audio/video work.

Everyone always complains my resolution is too high (1280x1024). But I like havbing a lot of room on the screen. i do a lot of documentation and work in 3 or 4 windows at a time. Sort of like having a really big desk and being able to spread things out across it.

Oh yea, well, when I was younger all we had was 800x600, and we liked it. Just to get to a computer, we had to walk uphill, both ways, in the snow, with one shoe . . . .

Yeah, I think we just reached our limit for the number of people on the board who've seen Clerks: The Animated Series.

Have you actually seen all 6 episodes? Or just the two that aired? And either way, this is a discussion for a different box...
