Sorry everyone that since last show I haven't been in here that much. For the last several days things have been pretty hectic for me, although mostly in an exciting and positive way. I had the photo shoot for the cover of New Times (a local paper here) Monday, and it went extremely well I think. The photographer took over 300 pictures, and I was doing different characters (Malinda being one of them), so I think she got some good stuff. Following that, I have been calling and driving and searching and negotiating all over town for a place to do a local live improv/variety/film stage version of Blackout's Box. I want to do improv comedy with some sketches and short films and interact with the films and the audience and also have guest novelty acts and bands. It's a big undertaking and I need a good space to do it and don't know if I can pull off a new show every weekend but that's what I'd like to do. I have to make it profitable though and it's diffucult because theater owners want all the money and all the alcohol sales (where the money is really made). I need to find somewhere where they are not using the theater at night and willing to give me a real good deal.

Anyway, the Fort Lauderdale film festval has a theater called Cinema Paradiso, and I fell in love with it. It would be perfect for Blackout's Box as they have a big (true movie theater size) screen with a round performance pit in front of it and 210 seats - just about a perfect size and with the right promotion, I think I could fill it with no problem. It's just coming up with enough new material and being able to reherse/produce it between all the improv stuff (which is just made up on the spot) every week. I played some sketches through their 35 thousnad dollar hi def projector and they looked awesome, and everyone was laughing at Trumpet especially. I know.. I know.. you guys haven't met Trumpet yet... still in the works - you will.

The problem though? They just want too much money.. $750.00 for the space which if I charge $10 a ticket does not leave enough money to pay me a salary for producing/writing/starring and also pay the other actors and also pay a few tech guys for music/sfx/lighting/and projector cues.

I am seeing another theater tommorow night which I know will not be as nice but which I can probably rent out for almost nothing and make my own money off alcohol sales. But I am in LOVE with the cinema paradiso.. it calls for Blackout's Box.

The other thing is that the Cinema Paradiso is in downtown Ft Laud where there is a big crowd of people up late who I think would love to come to a 11pm or midnight show. The other theater is in Dania.

I'll see what happens, but as it stands, if you are in the south florida area and would like to audition to be a supporting cast member, auditions will be held at 7pm at Cinema Paradiso in downtown Ft Lauderdale. You will need to have two short 2 minute monologues - one comedica and one dramtic, and possibly do some improv, and you will be taped to see what you look like on camera as in addition to the 5 people to join the stage show performers, I will be looking for all types to fill in roles in the TV show sketches and pilot.
