What is Alchemy?
Alchemy is many things in all things beleive it or not. There is much to learn about alchemy. I myself am still learning, I guess U could say I'm a mystic. Alchemy is the sacred science of ancient Khem(Egypt). The word Alchemy is derived from the Arabic name for Egypt, al-khemit, meaning "black earth". Black earth is the materia prima of the alchemist, the pure, unformed, primordial substance from which creation emerged. From the fertile black soil of the Nile delta, alchemy spread outwords through Europe and the Near East to flouish in the Islamic world, its influence extending as far as Aisia. Ofcoarse, we know it spread further throuhgout time. Esoterically and hieroglyphically, the word refers to the dark mystery of the primordial or First Matter(the Khem), the One Thing through which all creation manifests. Alchemy, then is the Great Work of the of nature that perfects this chaotic matter, whether it is expressed as the metals, the cosmos, and/or the substance of our souls.
"The true alchemists concealed the real nature of their experiments from the outer world in a labyrinth of symbols understood only by the the initiate. Likewise, in the Egyptian temples where the sacred science of Khem, the profound occult knowledge of thousands of years, was concealed within the outer religion in a system of symbols, hieroglyhps, and sacred names. For alchemy is not only concerned with the production of gold, as is commonly beleived, but it was and is a science penatrating the deepest secrets of nature, of life and death, of the beginings of existence." THE EMERALD TABLET....
Alchemy is the sacred science of Tehuti, the "Lord of all knowledge, and inventor of all the arts and sciences." The hermetic text known as the Emerald Tablet is said to be the word of Tehuti, or Thoth,"Thrice-Great Hermes" himself. It is the alchemist's table of law passed down to us through the centuries in Arabic and Latin translations, teaching the secrets of the transmutation of the elements, and eventually the way to "spiritualize the body and embody the spirit" (Burckhardt 1986, 83)
There is much info in all the Emaerald Tablets. However, this is the most recognized one (its also shortened and may change a little depending on the sorce)
The Emerald Tablet(The Key to Above and Below, tablet 11)...
* True, without doubt and very real.
*What is below is as that which is above, and is above is as that which is below, in order to perform the miracles of any one thing only. And just as all things have been and have come forth One, so all things have been born of this sole-singular thing, by adaptation.
*The Sun is its Father, the Moon is its Mother and the Wind has carried it in its belly; the Earth is its Nurse. The Father of the entire Telesma of the whole world is here. Its force or puissance is entire if it be converted into the Earth.
*Thou shalt seperate the Earth from the Fire, the Subtle from the Dense, gently and with great ingenuity. It rises from Earth to Heaven, and again descends to Earth, and it receives the strength of things above and below.
*By this means thou shalt have the glory of the World, and through it, all obscurity will flee from thee. This is the strong Strength of all strength, for it will vanquish any subtle thing and penetrate any solid thing.
*Thus has the world been created. From this there shall be and there will come forth marvelous adaptations, the means of which is here.
*Therefore, I have been called Tehuti, known by the name Thoth and also called Hermes Trismegistus, possessing the 3 parts of the Philosophy of the entire world.
*What I have said concerning the operation of the Sun is accmplished and perfected.
NOTE: I put this symbol(*), to break it up into 8 parts. LOL! it's on the same key, the 8 and the *. Anyways, I did that because there are usually seen the 7 steps of alchemy and then the 8th taking you back to the 1st.
If your curious to what the seven steps are, then I'll jot them down really quick for you.
So these are the 7 operations and their associated metals.
1~Calcination(lead)
2~Dissolution(tin)
3~Seperation(iron)
4~Conjunction(copper)
5~Fermentation(mercury)
6~Distillation(silver)
7~Coagulation(gold)
