Saw an interesting article that I completely agree with here:

Actually, the author of that web page, is very brilliant. I suggest you read all of the articles he has up on his site. I agree with him a lot. I'd actually like to have him on the show but I have been unable to find a contact page. If anyone finds it please e-mail me his telephone number or e-mail address.

I sent him a letter so hopefully he'll respond and be willing to do the show.

Boycott Microsoft? Are you MAD!?!?!? I don't dare do such things as my computer is running on Windows 98.

One of these days, I'm going to install my copy of Redhat 7.3 on one of my PC's... I need a spare spare machine since both of them are somewhat important... I'm so spoiled on Windows though... If I need to log into my machine from home, I use PC Anywhere.. (only on PC), if I don't have PC anywhere on a machine, I can use PC Anywhere Express (only for PC's, again) that runs an ActiveX program in a web browser (only IE) and lets me do what I need to do with a fair ammount of control. Everything in Windows (Whatever version) is easy to do and the user interface is somewhat consistant from program to program... Linux is very daunting, even to me, and I'm very computer literate.. so many goofy directories and structure. I tried it once and was completely dumbfounded when it came to setting stuff up.. then I set some stuff up and something else broke and I was like "WTF?!? I don't even know what to DO now so I have to start over..." I couldn't even think of which miniscule file I needed to change a setting in to make the XWindow server work again.. what a damn pain.. Plus the majority of hardware is made for windows ONLY and not Linux... good luck buying a printer.. you have to know which company supports Linux (and the right flavor of linux) and buy their printer.. assuming (likely) that your current printer or whatever else is incompatable. Plus, the laptop support isn't really there.. I'd like to put it on my laptop but Windows plays well with my laptop's power management very nicely and linux doesn't have an idea... I doubt I could set it to hibernate like I can now, much less tell me how much battery is remaining.

Oh well... rant over [Smile] I need to just take the plunge and install it, I suppose.

Step one, construct an anti-lawyer cannon.

Step two, directly copy Windows and eliminate the Big Brother influence.

Step three, pray.

You know, Microsoft catches a lot of flack. But I think we should all remember that there was a time when Microsoft was simply a couple guys with a dream to bring a top-quality, affordable operating system to the masses. Did it occur to any of you that Microsoft wouldn't be where they were today unless they had signed a contract with the devil? ... uh I mean unless they had faith in their vision, and had the determination to make it a reality? I get so sick of people bitching about how evil the big corporations are. Did it occur to any of you that hahahahahahah!!!!! (Spits coffee across the room).

Sorry. I tried to keep a straight face until the end, but I couldn't make it. Mitnick forever.

I think the divison become clear when Gates wrote the imfamous letter to Homebrew. Everything since then has been for profit, since if you're not doing it for profit, somebody will release a 99.5% identical product and enjoy your profit for you.

What is this letter to Homebrew? I have never heard of it or read it.

While Homebrew was making huge leaps and bounds by sharing and taking hardware and software apart to figure ways to improve them and drive technology forward, Gates was starting "Micro-Soft" Inc.

Evidently, they did something with one of his programs, and he fired off an angry letter threatening legal action, demanding that they pay for his code. Unless I'm mistaken, that's the point that people started to slowly turn on the truly revolutionary hackers and designers as nothing but idea-thieves.

You should ask Woz about it, he'd know more [Wink] . Can I just take this time to make the manditory once-monthly comment on how incredibly cool he was about that whole thing?

**Warning I do not condone piracy***

Put a pirated cooperate version of XP on your comp. When I got my computer the first thing I did was to throw away XP home with the WPA (Windows Product Activation), and put on the volume license version with SP1. No activation required.

**Remember I do not condone piracy**

I bought one copy of Windows 95, and put it on two computers. I bought one copy of Windows 98 SE, and put it on two computers. I bought a new computer and paid the extra cost for WinXP, and they won't let me use the software I just bought on the other computer I own?

Screw them, it's there anyways. That's not piracy, that's using the product. Hey! They should be happy I think enough of it to WANT to use it twice.

I installed Redhat Linux on a Celeron 500 with 128 mb of memory. Lemme tell you what a dog that computer became.. I don't know how the Linux zealots do it, you gotta have a workstation to run either of the half-way decent X servers... KDE and Gnome both drag their asses BADLY when they run on that PC. There's no way that you can run Linux on anything but a really nice PC.. Linux's huge draw used to be that you could use it on an old and outdated machine..

It was easy to install but I haven't had a chance to finish configuring it because it's so damn slow.

I think we should boycott all corporations so singling out microsoft seems a little pointless... how about boycott Walmart, Haliburton, Shell etc... corporations by their very nature are evil fuckers...
Fact is i think we are all at a moral impass by playing their games we make ourselves culpable. They've got us sussed out.. we can't win without major action....

Microsoft has been sending out WGA authenticity checker spyware in its updates, and has flagged some legit versions of Windows as pirated ones, this has spawned 2 lawsuits!
