TO ALL SOUTH FLORIDA ACTORS - PRESS RELEASE: Blackout's Box Auditions August 4th 7pm at Cinema Paradiso in downtown Ft Lauderdale
Audition's for Blackout's Box LIVE On Stage and also for the pilot of Blackout's Box THE TV SHOW will be held Monday, August 4th, from 7 to 11pm at the Cinema Paradiso in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale at 503 SE 6th St, on the south side of the New River, one block east of the Broward County Courthouse. (full directions follow this release)
Blackout's Box LIVE On Stage is an interactive, multimedia, comedy entertainment experience that will feature the sketchophrenic (yes, we know we said sketchophrenic) characters of Michael Biggins (Bigansky), also known by the nickname, 'Blackout', along with a supporting cast of actors, musical guests, dancers, other surprises, and randomly selected members of the audience.
The show will be a combination of short films, live action sketches, improv games, practical jokes, music, and audience participation pieces. Half of the show will be planned and rehearsed, and half will be completely off the cuff based on audience reaction. Cast members will be interacting not only with each other, but with films, videos, music, and audience members. For instance, the show will start with a short film, and then the audience will be subjected to the characters on screen coming out of the film and into the actual theater and interacting with each other and the audience, and then going back into the film.
The sound, light, and projector cues will be somewhat complex, so all interested actors should have strong comedy, timing, and improv skills, as well as the ability to differentiate between acting for a live audience in a theater, and acting for a film camera.
For the audition, which will be an open call, actors will be required to perform a comedic monologue (under 2 minutes please) and may be called upon to improv and interact with other actors.
Please bring a headshot and resume if you have one, but if you don't, you may still audition. We will take a picture of you for future reference. All actors will also be filmed during their audition to judge their on camera presence.
For the main supporting cast who will appear in the stage show, I am looking for both male and female actors in the age range of 20-35. This is not set in stone, so if you are out of that age range but feel that something like this would be for you, please audition. Actors chosen for the main supporting cast may appear in some of the short films, and if so, they will be given a high quality DVD master copy of any film they appear in. These films will be shot in 24p filmlook, not video. Also, the first performance of the live stage show will be recorded live to tape by a full television crew using three broadcast quality digital betacam cameras, and all talent appearing in the show will be given a high quality DVD copy of the entire show.
I am also looking for character types of all ages to appear in some of the side roles in the short films that will be played during the LIVE stage show that may be used in the television pilot.
The main cast will be paid positions, however the rate has not been determined yet, so If you are in this for the money only, I suggest something else.
Actors who do not fit for the main cast will be kept on file and considered for roles in some of the short films. These roles will not be paid, however, once again, I stress that a high quality DVD master copy of the film you appear in will be given to you and you will be fully credited.
Some of the short films from the stage show will appear in the TV show pilot, and will also be sent out on their own to multiple film festivals. The production quality on these short films will be very high, using professional film lighting and sound equipment, NOT uncle joe's miniDV vacation camcorder. I have and I'm sure many actors have invested time in projects that were not high quality, and I can assure you that is not the case with this project.
The best of the short films in the live stage show will be included in the Blackout's Box TV show pilot, which is also currently in production and is going to be pitched to all major networks and several contacts in the industry. No promises are being made, but every effort is being made to bring this show up to higher levels.
All participants will also be featured and and encouraged to take part in the Blackout's Box website and internet radio show (www.blackout.com), which gets thousands of hits per day and has a very active, interactive, creative community - where the line between audience and performance is blurred.
Think it's a Saturday Night LIVE wedding where Kid's in the Hall marries Mr Show, who has sex with Who's Line is it Anyway, who is cheating on Monty Python, who had affairs with Tom Green, Jackass, and The Jamie Kennedy Experience while they all hung out in a Real World house and fought each other while watching Moulin Rouge on a big screen TV, and you will have somewhat of a limited understanding of what Blackout's Box may be entirely unlike.
Confused? Good. Think a variety show on crack. For more information and details, please check out the current Broward/West Palm Beach New Times paper (July 24th to the 30th Volume 6 issue 39). Blackout's Box is the cover story.

Directions to Cinema Paradiso: Broward Blvd east, past Andrews, and make a right on 3rd street. Go over the bridge and make an immediate left onto 6th street. Cinema Paradiso will be on your left several blocks up. It is a beautiful church that has been converted into a 210 seat theater, and it is also the home of the Ft Lauderdale Film Festival and is a perfect setting for the Blackout's Box LIVE on stage show
