Los Angeles based actress Laura Segura, better known to most people as youtube.com video blogger "LUCYinLA” (http://youtube.com/lucyinla), will be appearing on Blackout's Box LIVE! InteracTVsion (http://blackout.com) Thursday May 17th at 11pm eastern time, 8pm pacific.

Segura has reached a level of popularity and viewer ship on youtube (as LUCYinLA) only achieved by a few. With millions of viewers and thousands of subscribers, many speculated that LUCYinLA, much like loneygirl15 , was a 'fake', or to put it more accurately - a professional actress being paid to act as a down and out on her luck actress trying to make it in L.A. Yeah, it can make you dizzy and tongue tied just saying it: “An actress being paid to act as an actress who isn't doing so well trying to be an actress.” Untie my tongue please!

As it turns out, she's the real deal. But what does that mean exactly? Lucy isn't her real name, but her nickname - just as I use the nickname 'Blackout' (blackoutDOTcom on youtube), and her videos are done by just one guy, her friend Kerim Duran, who likes to simply be called "Karismo" or "Camera Guy" (http://www.youtube.com/karismo).

Is this good or bad and what does ‘real’ and ‘fake’ mean any more in today’s world and especially on the internet? Laura says that despite her youtube fame, she really hasn't gotten that much acting work, at least not the legitimate type of roles that she'd be willing to do. She claims that her video blogs are all true - just her being herself and telling her tale, and that the only reason she didn't disclose her real name in the beginning was out of fear of internet stalkers and seedy types. Seedy types on the internet? Whoever heard of such a thing!?!

So what’s the big picture? What does it all mean? Has internet fame helped or hurt her? While you might think producers and directors would be knocking down her door simply because of the numbers of viewers she's pulling in on youtube, she says it may have even hurt her credibility as a ‘real’ actress, because many of the offers she does get are for promotional, hokey, or cheesy jobs wanting her to continue to be 'LUCYinLA the youtube girl’ while she wants to really 'act'. So they want her to continue to be real, and she wants to really be fake? Is your head fully spinning yet? Welcome to the wacky world known as ‘show business’.

Would it have been better for her if she actually was a ‘fake’ and ‘acting’ all this time as poor struggling LUCYinLA, but all the while getting a regular paycheck from some big production company, or would that be considered selling out, like lonelygirl15? But did lonelygirl15 really sellout or is she the one being a 'real' and successful actress because she fooled so many people while getting a paycheck? What is selling out in the acting world? Isn’t that what actors are supposed to do? Sellout a show?

Being an actor myself, I know much of what Lucy...AHEM...Laura - is going through. We'll talk about the strange and bazaar loopy paradoxes of the entertainment industry, as well as the differences between 'reality tv' and blogging versus actual 'acting'. We'll also discuss the youtube, myspace, and media/netwoking clone site explosion phenomena and where it's headed, as well as showing some of her youtube clips, and hopefully some of her real acting reel, where she is actually acting for real, and not just talking about it. Who knows, she might even have some brand new exclusive material, and she'll take your calls and be available in the chat room to interact with you and answer questions. NO STALKERS PLEASE! You will be immediately booted out and your ip address banned if you ‘act’ inappropriately.

Remember, this is Blackout’s Box LIVE interACTvsion, so ACT accordingly!

Spread the word and tune in! May 17th 2007 Blackout, LUCYinLA, and Karismo the Camera Guy will all be ACTively anticipating you tuning in! Remember, Blackout’s Box LIVE InteracTVsion is on from 9pm to 2am Eastern Standard Time, so for you Californian’s that’s 6pm to 11pm, and LUCY/LAURA will be featured at around 11pm eastern/8pm pacific. If you’re in some other part of the world, you’ll have to calculate the time difference yourself! ADDITIONAL NOTES: I have also contacted lonelygirl15's 'people' in order to give her an opportunity to appear on the show as well and give her point of view.

ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL NOTES: As to the term lonelygirl15's 'people' - you see, when you start to become an actor or actress that has any amount of success (success being defined as - "making money") in whatever medium of entertainment you may be in, you get what is commonly known in the entertainment industry as 'people'. Hence the constant talk from big actors such as, "hey, yeah man, that sounds like a great project, have your 'people' talk to my 'people' and we'll do 'lunch'." No one knows exactly what these 'people' do, but they apparently form a protective buffer around the 'talent', make a lot of phone calls, and go to a lot of 'lunches', and demand some of the talent's 'money' for this service.

ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL ADDITIONAL NOTES: In the entertainment industry, the term 'lunch' means 'we'll have a meeting' and vice versa. Serious entertainment professionals know that if you or your 'people' are invited to do 'lunch', you are actually going to have a 'meeting' and may actually get some paying work out of it. At the same time, the inverse is true. If some supposed film maker, agent, or professional in the entertainment industry actually invites you to have a 'meeting', he is obviously a fraud, and all you are going to get out of it most likely is some 'lunch' if even that.

You are not your job, your titles, your possessions, your degrees, your lovers, your relationships, your place of residence, your social security number, your ID, your bills, your worries, your bank account, your age or your body. You are the timeless being that created & perceives itself through those things, and you have the power to play or not play that game. When someone asks me "what do you do?" looking for some title to pin me down, I laugh and say "EVERYTHING!" - Blackout
