OK listen, the Blackout's Box SHOUTCAST server is currently down and being worked on. The Thursday night show has as you know, changed format from just audio, to audio/video, and has moved to this link or you can just come to here, http://blackout.com and you will see the main page change and have a "TUNE IN NOW" sign or link a little before 9pm on Thursday nights. The show goes from 9pm to 2am EASTERN TIME. That is 6pm to 11pm for you west coast PACIFIC peeps.

Well it seems my laptop usb port seems to freeze up nce an hour or two so I need to definately do the show off of the main studio computer and not on the terrace with a laptop. Luckily if stuff crashes, you dont get disconnected it just goes back to whatever was in the playlist before.
Just about to hook a mic up and test some live talking so if you're around and have a headset... I may run skype or ventrillo.
AIM seems to fuck things up as well so I dont know if I will continue to run that while doing shows.
5:38 am and still on. Come take a listen and pop in the chatroom.

It has to do with my crappy laptop... the usb that powers the wireless trasnmitter reciever locks up and loses signal once every hour or 2... don't know exactly what causes it.
I am returning this laptop I have the extended warrantee from best buy. Time for a new one.
Also, anyone know if I could get like a 20 or 30 foot USB cable so I could run this internet into my main computer?
Sean is working on some sort of antenna signal booster thingy.. we'll see if that does it.
In any case if I dissapear, just keep listening and I will be back within a few minutes. What happens when I get lost does some other show or prank start playing?
My goal here is to eventually get my own top of the line shoutcast server running.

When you lose connection to the PCU stream,it almost immediately goes back to whatever prank got interrupted when you started your show. So people won't be hearing dead air.
Good job last night. I know it's all a little confusing and daunting at first. But, now that you have it all set up, you won't have to go through all that again.

This is just a hopefully helpful opinion. But, when you kick the stream and start live, you're automaticly gaining everyone who was listening to whatever was playing when you went on the air. So, if you play the 'prepare to join the insanity' thing too long, people will tune to something else.

Oh.. sorry KDK.... didn't mean to play that track unless the start of a real show... winamp was set to play random past shows and that got in there by accident or might have been at the start of one of the past shows.
I am still testing stability depening on where I have the wireless usb hub. I want to make sure I dont get drops if I'm going to do the live show this thursday fro real.
Trying to get a phone line to call into as well.
Also, I forgot the shoutcast login and password info, I had it on autosave.. could you please e-mail that info to me again?
Also if you have mp3 commercials for your show e-mail them to me. Same goes for you Jiggy.

UPDATE : Ted (co-owner of PCU) got upset with all of the random test broadcasts and the playing of music. So he wants you to keep use of the PCU stream to just Thursdays when you're doing your show live.

Being that PCU is a 24-hour prank call radio station, it has a niche. It does very well with people tuning in to hear prank calls. If they tune in and hear music, they're outta there. You're all set for your show on Thursday. Everything is stable and sounds great on PCU. So you're ready to go.
I did notice, however, that the high-quality stream looks like it has an 11 listener capacity(?). And even when only 6 or 7 people were tuning to it, it was rebuffering a lot.
Radio Toolbox is a good tool to use to keep track of how many are listening, how many listeners you can handle, your title stream, and to keep tabs on the competition. It's s free program with no spyware/malware/etc.
However, I had a time slot reserved for me on another server (Wild Bunch Radio, 56k MP3pro stereo, 300 listener capacity) on Thursdays after 10PM (eastern). I used to do a show at that time, but I will only be doing my Saturday night show now. I asked them to hold that slot for you.
No offense to Jiggy at all because he has become a friend of mine. But it looks like Jiggy's station is running off of his home PC using his own bandwith. It would not be very stable and can't handle more than 11 listeners.
If you're interested, contact me and I'll give you contact information for the guy in charge of the server. He can set you up with passwords and stream kicks.
The only bad part about it is that they already have a show on from 8-10, so you wouldn't be able to use that stream until 10.

Hmmmm.. can't hurt to have as a backup so sure please send me the correct information all in an e-mail. Yes, that was jiggys home server I believe. Trying to get on another one that can handle 500 at 64k mp3pro 44.1 stereo but let me know about yours. As many options as possible would be great in case something fails. I am eventually going to build a rackmount shoutcast server and put it in where blackout.com is hosted but until that happens all help is appreciated. Oh and I got that radio toolbox it worked well and in realtime. The SAM encoder however wants to be paid for or it says it will boot me? How much is it?

So to my absolute and horrified chagrin, my modem crapped out on me last night (great timing too) and I was unable to listen in.
How did everything go last night?
Any major pitfalls or things that you need help on (besides the issue with not enough people being able to use MP3pro?)

You could simply download the winamp basic install and the mp3pro plug-in and make them available from here. They wouldn't have a problem with you having the software on your server because it's free anyway.
Also a note, doesn't broadcasting in MP3pro totally kill the sound for anyone who doesn't have the plug-in?

It doesn't kill it it just halves the frequency rate.. so you will be listening at 64kbps 22khz instead of 44.1 khz which is cd quality. So while it dos muffle the sound a bit, it doesn't kill it. The sound of the dialup 24k mono 32khz was infinately better than the 24k mono 22khz you normally run, however.. when going to mp3pro, it halvs it if you dont have the plugin so people who dont have the plugin who were listening to the stream heard it in 22kbps 16khz which, yes, was slightly worse than if I had transmitted at the standard 24kbs 22khz mp3 your PCU station goes in. Not a HUGE difference.., well worth the trade off because people can at least hear, and hear me yelling at them to go install mp3pro. I am gone for the weekend but I am going to make a page explaining all this and put the DLs on my server. I tried that once before and for some reason there were errors. I think winamp makes you dl it from their server.. but lemme check again.

It's your version of windows being evil and not letting java work, you need to go and
click here to download sun microsystems java then click on DL or allow it to DL and install.
The the chatroom should work.

It seems that Java doesnt come with either Windows 2000 or Windows XP without their service packs. I installed LINDOWS and it worked right away!

I REALY like the MP3 Pro, but where does it put all the extra signal information.
The files arnt much more than 550kb per minute, and the output file size is almost exactly the same if not more than a 64kbps 22khz Stereo mp3.
I know for a fact that you CAN encode a 64kbps 44khz Joint-Stereo MP3, but the frequency is still realy only 22khz... although when you switch to mono, you get all 44khz but with the classic mp3 format 'SLUSHY NOT ENOUTH BANDWITH IN THE FILE TO SUPPORT CLEAR AUDIO BUT STILL CD QUALITY ![[Quan]](graemlins/quansmiley.gif) '
