This site, as I have said, needs a total redesign.

I really like the look of this site:

http://www.inspirethenewlife.com/

Something functional like that for blackout.com where I could easily upload and control content, even have a user content section... still have the boards, the radio show, and audio clips, but in a much sleekerpackage.

I also like Prince's site.

Anyoneout there have any ideas and really good with web design and flash?

You are not your job, your titles, your possessions, your degrees, your lovers, your relationships, your place of residence, your social security number, your ID, your bills, your worries, your bank account, your age or your body. You are the timeless being that created & perceives itself through those things, and you have the power to play or not play that game. When someone asks me "what do you do?" looking for some title to pin me down, I laugh and say "EVERYTHING!" - Blackout

How about if you somehow worked it out so that any computer that visted the site would make a grilled cheese sandwich for its user?

No, no. An orgasm plug-in would be cool, and you can make it randomly appear as a link on certain pages. This will guarantee your viewers to thoroughly skim the site and click on every link in hopes that they will be the "lucky one". This will be the greatest thing since...Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!

The design of that is pretty stable, but it's just like every other site out there. That isn't necessarily a bad thing; there are a lot of successful sites that are based on that same formula. However, the one thing that just kills it is, "and I've said this before", the color scheme. Look, I'm not knocking the passion behind your colors, but I can tell you this: Aesthetics are one of the most important aspects in the art of pleasing the eye. Color is at the top of the chain in this category. Leonardo's Mona Lisa would have never got the attention that it did if she was sporting a Blurpinkle top. The "Limited Time Only" Mcrib Sandwich would not be a popular item if it's packaging, or the buns, were decked out in a blurpinkle hue. Is this all sinking in? Once again, I am not knocking Blackout's determination here; however, his color scheme must be changed in order to attract the majority out there.

Does anyone else agree with me?

Oh I think the colors of the Mona Lisa are quite horrid... Pee Yellows, and Pea Greens... Bleh. I think she needs a makeover.

As to Herbert's design.I like some of it. It has potential. I agree with danny the blurpinkle thing doesn't have to go crazy with everything. I like the top left colors of the banner but the right logo looks gaudy and over colored.. logo needs work. I like intense color obvisouly but it must be made to work, and in reading areas it doesn't work so the color has to be kept to the frames and logos banners icons ect.. then reading areas clear. I like the top left, but as I said the right, I don't want it to look like a porn site. The logo on the right needs work. The latest members to join the insanity doesn't need to be in there either it's just a space waister. The latest posts do need to be in there somewhere so that's fine. I would also like some form of flash or video at the top like that site I showed you.. I thought that was really cool.I don't know what software and copression I'd need to you to make that happen but I like it. perhpas the site could autodetect for bandwidth and then go to a non video/bandwidth intensive version... but other than the boards, this is a media site, and you need bandwidth for that, andmore and more people have broadband.

"Echo Boomer" generation is that what they are calling us now.
What the fucking hell is this shit? That makes me mad. I'm sick of this "hey lets market on this by giving it a Label that people can identify with"

This is all makes me sick I'm going to throw up now.

I think the new designs are terrible as well.

This website (and the design ideas floating around) smack of old school websites.

There are better ways to do it now, totally in flash or other options, keeping things simple, clean and uncluttered.

As much fun as this place is, it is a disorganized mess and those new designs are just as bad and quite frankly look crappy.

Sorry - just keepin' it real

I think the current site is ok, but it was more logical about 6 months ago... now i find myself hunting for things.... seems like a site for return visitors rather than a site for newbies... newbies would see the page and say awww.. where are the prank calls and shows...

I agree; I don't like the new design either.

I like Herbert’s stuff normally, but I don't like his logo where Blackout looks like a floating Tinkerbell.

I'm also sick of the liners at the main page. For new people it is pretty cool I guess. But I go there a lot to see if there are new posts and hear the same stuff over and over. It would be nice if we'd have an option to turn that off.

"Totally in flash or other options, keeping things simple, clean and uncluttered.”

Definitely agree with that! But the project needs managed properly.

Here is a suggestion. Perhaps 2 teams/people and a project manager could work together to boost this site:

1) Somebody technical creates a template(s) that can be loaded up with Blackout content.

2) Somebody less technical but very artistic can load/configure the templates with Blackout content, change fonts, color schemes etc.

3) Project manager does the usual, gathers requirments, coordinates the 2 teams, ensures communication, oversees deadlines and milestones makes sure requirements are being sasisfied etc. etc.

I think it is too much work for just one person. Anyway, that is how I’d go about it.
