Blackout here, your friend with the hat, and I've got some long awaited news to cheer up and beer up your holiday season!
I'm back, and this time, my hat is bigger, badder, and more importantly, so is the website, check out the new material up on BLACKOUT.COM right now, and be ready to laugh!

If you have a NEWER computer with an hd widescreen monitor, you can now watch my all new HD channel, right in the middle of the screen, you can even full-screen it!
If you are on an older computer, you can still watch all of your favorite old clips, and all the new HD content, in the bBlackout TV sd (standard def) channel, which is in a box just a little below the hd channel.
Almost all the classic prank calls have been remastered, and you can hear old radio shows and classic pranks now just by pressing play, no more need for an external media player, it plays right off the site! However, if you want to play them in an external media player, you can still do that too!
Also, I have finally caved in and started a blog, which I will be updating regularly with wacky writing of my adventures in film making, acting, farting, space travel, saving the world through silliness, and my experiments in conjunction with the Institute For the Advancement of Foolishness. AND NOW - FOR SOME MORE IMPORTANT NEWS!
Many people have asked me what's going on with Blackout.com and if I will be doing the radio show again or if I am primarily doing film / movies and I say...BOTH!
I got an extra full HD swivel monitor (LG) that allows you to work in portrait mode which is REALLY very cool for websites and it is the way most new 'tablet' devices work - where the page is long like a book, not wide for viewing 16 x 9 content. It's pretty neat, but in reality I want the site to work well on both so I still have a lot of work to do.
For several years now most sites have stopped at a width of 1024 pixels because they want their sites to be able to be displayed correctly on older monitors and computers. Hey.. not everyone is a superstar millionaire celebrity with a cool hat collection .. I understand that... (but you SHOULD be.. it's much more fun) in any case... work in progress is being done to bring BLACKOUT.COM back better than ever! Again, no longer will you have to scroll through so much endless text, some of it left over from 1995 when I was the first person to 'STREAM' a prank call on the net and I didn't really know what the hell I was doing as far as web page design went. I still don't really know what the hell I am doing as far as web page design goes but I am learning and also hiring a team to help me out.
The BIG changes:
Again, no longer will you have to scroll through endless text to find the sketch, prank call, radio show, video, parody, or whatever it is you want. I am upgrading all the interfaces to be much easier to navigate.
Firstly, I have decided to stick with youtube rather than host my videos and movies off my own server, since in the last 6 months they have MASSIVELY increased their quality and finally gone full HD. I have programmed it so that there are now TWO video channels on the site.
The main channel is in HD for you slicksters with the latest and greatest computers and 16 x 9 widescreen monitors. Now you will be able to see my new content in stunning film like HD 1080 24p quality, and you can full screen it without blockiness or the nastiness that YouTube is known for... or you can watch it in the window. Either way it looks fantastic, and you can just scroll left or right or click on the icon of the video you want.... no more searching for a text link version! YAY!
But wait, you old school scrooges with old computers, I didn't leave you behind - as the site has an SD (standard definition) channel for all of my old videos that I made on the 4:3 old square TV format... plus, that channel will have all the old bits that just don't look good up converted to HD.
But wait, THERE'S MORE!
Now, many of the prank calls that you know and love (or don't know) are DIRECTLY playable right off the page. Just hit the little play icon and enjoy! Same thing with many of the Blackout's Box LIVE radio show archives. So you can play it off the page, or in winamp, or the horribly over bloated crapware known as itunes.
I have THOUSANDS of hours of old radio material on filed away hard drives so I will be making a lot of that available as we move towards the re-launch of my radio station - BLACKOUT RADIO, which will relaunch 24/7 on 11/11/11
And this is where YOU come in! While I have tons of content to fill up the airwaves with old shows playing in a big loop.... that's not my goal - I am looking for ORIGINAL show ideas from peeps out there who want to host their own LIVE radio show on one of the coolest and funnest and bestestest (ok so it's not a word but it's so true) web sites in the world - BLACKOUT.COM (lego my ego, but if you do.. put strawberry preserves on it).
By 11/11/11 - we will have nationwide wifi almost everywhere, and every device will have it, so no one will need to bother with serious or xm satellite crapola... or god forbid.. ** choke ** .... ** gasp **.. the horrors of FM commercial radio or the under 50 blankets sound of AM radio. As we speak, many devices already have shoutcast plugins and can tune into shoutcast radio stations... but by 11/11/11 - EVERY device will, as wifi will be everywhere, or cell phone speed will be so universally fast and cheap that it doesn't even matter if you have wifi or not. We'll be up to 4G or 5G or ain't nothing but a G thang speed.... LUDICROUS speed!
I have moved more into being an actor / writer / director all around filmmaker because FINALLY the technology is here and digital cinema has caught up to my imagination and quality level that I have been searching for since I was a little bitty sperm when I opened Blackout.com way back in 1995. Now I'm a much bigger and stronger sperm.
With the new BLACKOUT RADIO station, anyone will be able to LISTEN from all over the world with one easy click or typing in blackout.com into their car radio / nav system, and a select few talented individuals will be able to BROADCAST LIVE from anywhere in the world with a few simple pieces of hardware for your pc, some microphones, and headphones. You will be given a log in code and a time slot, and when it's time for your show to go on, you log in at the appropriate time and ** poof ** your on LIVE to a worldwide audience.
Here's the thing. if you haven't figured it out by now, I am a very original thinker, so I want shows that fit into the BLACKOUT theme of love / light / laughter / kindness / creativity & abundance for ALL ways of life and all types of people. This doesn't mean you need to be some new age spiritual person or a nutcase like me, but it means you must be yourself and have an ORIGINAL and UNIQUE idea for your talk / music show.
I really am NOT too interested in ONLY music rotation shows right now as every type of station for every type of genera already exists between all the stations on shoutcast.com and pandora and the 10,000 other music streaming sites. Again, I can't repeat enough times - I am looking for ORIGINAL and UNIQUE shows that HAVEN'T been done before, with people who have real zap and pop to their personality.
I would prefer talk shows or talk / music mix shows rather than flat out DJ / music shows. Put it this way, I am not looking for you to come onto Blackout Radio and play your ipod playlist; I want you to be ALIVE and engaging! This is not to say that music shows are complete and flat out not going to be on my station, but if you are going to do a music show, you better have a really new or interesting angle or take on it, or I am not interested.
So PLEASE - if you would like to be a host and have some flair and a little bit of tech experience with audio, send me your show proposal to michael@blackout.com and you may be in on the line up!
Time slots will fill up fast so be flexible and tell me your preferred time slot (usually anywhere from a one hour show to a 3 hour show) and then all the backup times you could take. The radio station will be 24/7 so I will be thinking in United States eastern standard time... so please think of that if you are overseas or on mountain time or west coast time.
If you can put together a little mp3 demo of what your show would be like, that would be even better.
There is no pay for this on the current time, it is just for exposure, but this may very well change as I promise you I am out to make BLACKOUT.COM one of the biggest and fun website destinations in the world... and I need YOUR help to do it!
There is more to life on the web than youtube, facebook, and twitter, and I'm out to prove that. I may even launch a funding initiative on kickstarter.com in order to really get some new servers that will up the bar on a few top secret ideas I am working on… including a new type of social networking and interactivity beyond what is currently going down on the above mentioned sites.
